Individual Therapy
One-on-one therapy sessions are a powerful way to address mental, emotional, and behavioral problems. Individual therapy is a collaborate experience based on developing mutual trust and connection. I approach therapy primarily through CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), a strength-based approach (positive psychology), and motivational interviewing.
Therapeutic goals are developed collaboratively, along with schedule and frequency of sessions. Although psychological distress can often be the motivator for starting therapy, individual therapy can also be effective in moving toward essential life goals, eliminating problem habits, and even developing increased emotional intelligence.
Parenting or Family Therapy
One of my specialties is helping families transition and adjust as teens and young adults age and mature. It’s quite common for families to need assistance in finding the right balance between independence, autonomy, and family responsibility. Many parents of teens and young adults often feel trapped in a tug-of-war with their child.
Instead of a zero-sum outcome, my work with parents and families provides a win-win outcome. Every parent and every family can benefit from changes to the family environment and improved relationships with loved ones.
Marital Therapy
As time goes by and life gets busier and busier, the marriage relationship is often the casualty of a stressed and hectic life. I work with couples to help them reconnect with one another, put intentional effort into the relationship, and prioritize the marriage.
I approach marriage therapy utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) developed by Sue Johnson. I also incorporate the tools and principles of John Gottman, a pioneer in the field of healthy relationships. I help couples reconnect, discover new things to value about each other, and develop shared purpose and meaning in their lives.
Mental Health Consultation
I often meet clients that may not be experiencing problems that require therapy but would benefit from a consultation and perhaps wellness coaching. If you think that you’re in a position where a consultation would be more in line with your goals and needs, please specify in your inquiry.
Trainings and Speaking Engagements
I have given over one-hundred talks, presentations, and trainings during my career as a mental health counselor. I am passionate about helping schools, businesses, and organizations become more emotionally well and committed to the mental health needs of their community. If you are interested in having me speak to your community to lead a training for your organization, let’s connect now!
